Police: Woman Escapes Custody, Steals Trooper’s Vehicle

SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (AP) — State police say they've nabbed a woman who they say escaped from custody, stole a trooper's vehicle, abandoned it and fled on foot in upstate New York.

State police say troopers were helping the Schoharie (skoh-HAYR'-ee) County Sheriff's Office transport 26-year-old Tierra Scott Sunday afternoon in the village of Schoharie when she slipped out of her handcuffs, climbed into the driver's seat of a trooper's patrol car and locked the doors.

Authorities say she then drove off, dragging the trooper a short distance. The trooper suffered minor injuries.

Police say Scott ditched the vehicle and was found about seven hours later in a nearby wooded area located 30 miles west of Albany.

Scott is being held Monday in the jail in neighboring Albany County. It wasn't immediately known if she has an attorney.
