NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — Police in western New York says a woman's body has been found inside a vehicle and a suspect in her death has been taken into custody.

City of Niagara Falls Police Superintendent Bryan DalPorto says a man confronted by officers Wednesday evening tried to flee, then lunged at officers with a knife before being hit with a stun gun and taken into custody.

Police say minutes earlier they had found a woman's body in a car in a restaurant parking lot. Niagara Falls police say they were alerted to the situation by police in Youngstown, Ohio, who received a call from a man who said his brother had killed his girlfriend.

Police haven't released the name of the dead woman or the man in custody.

Officials are expected to release more information Thursday morning.
