Marcy, NY (WIBX) - Thefts from vehicles are on the rise in Utica, despite the fact that auto thefts were down in the city last year.  We are our listeners whether they had been victims of car thefts.

Just under seventy percent said that they had experienced a theft from their cars.  Only thirty-three percent said that they had not been victims, because they were "lucky."

The police remind the public that most vehicle thefts are crimes of opportunity.  Locking doors and leaving valuables out of sight significantly reduces the chances that a thief will target vehicles.  Be warned that if a car is left running and someone steals it, many insurance companies will not cover the loss.
