Marcy, NY (WIBX) - As the company was handed a subpoena served on behalf of the New York Police Department, social networking company Twitter handed over information to authorities leading to the identity of an account holder who sent threatening tweets.

At issue were privacy questions raised about revealing the information.  However, authorities were convinced that concerns over public safety trumped those about privacy. The tweets about a shooting intended for a showing of Mike Tyson's Broadway show "Undisputed Truth" at the Longacre Theater on Broadway got national attention when they made specific reference to the Aurora, Colorado shootings.

We asked our listeners whether Twitter should have voluntarily surrendered the information.  Everyone polled said "yes," with one hundred percent agreeing that Twitter should have surrendered the information, even before being threatened with legal action.
