More than 16,000 National Grid customers are without power right now, after storms ripped through the area on Wednesday evening.

Among the hardest hit communities are the City of Utica, with 3,800 customers without power, and New Hartford with about 1,300 facing a night without electric.

Other towns throughout the three counties with high numbers of power outages include the Town of Verona with 1,519 customers powerless, the Village of Herkimer with 1,155 and the Village of Dolgeville, with 1,023.

Crews are currently out assessing the situation, with some communities possibly receiving electricity again by midnight.
