A few months ago brought the news that Sony Playstation had revived the long-dormant adaptation of the superhero comic ‘Powers‘ in order to become the Sony gaming machine’s first original series. Now, the media giant officially confirmed plans for the property, setting a December debut on multiple platforms with the promise of casting announcements to come.

For those unfamiliar with ‘Powers,’ the story follows detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, two homicide investigators inhabiting a world regularly menaced by the struggles between superheroes and supervillains, or “Powers,” to which they’re referred. The initial FX pilot, which was scrapped, featured Jason Patric and Lucy Punch in the roles of Walker and Pilgrim, along with Charles S. Dutton, ‘LOST‘ star Titus Welliver and Carly Foulkes, as written by Charles Eglee.

Now, Sony Pictures Television confirmed a 10-episode commitment to a ‘Powers’ series, setting an unspecified December debut date as writer Charlie Huston steps in for Eglee. Circle of Confusion will return to executive produce the new ‘Powers’ alongside co-creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. Michael Dinner will remain as executive producer and director, with Huston and ‘Falling Skies‘ Remi Aubuchon executive producing under showrunners Bendis and Huston.

While no cast has yet been selected (Bendis promised multiple updates over the summer), the first episode will be free for all Playstation Network users, while PS Plus subscribers will have the opportunity to watch the entire first season for free.

We’ve included video of Bendis’ announcement on ‘Powers’ below, but what do you think? Will Playstation’s first original series be the hit Sony needs to announce its presence in the original series market? Who would you like to see join the ‘Powers’ cast?
