A bill renewing the National Security Agency's power to collect bulk telephone records of all Americans has been signed by President Barack Obama.

While the phone records program is being reshaped, the NSA is once again able to collect those records.

The USA Freedom Act modifies the USA Patriot Act.  While the Patriot Act allowed the NSA to store the telephone records, the Freedom Act requires that the records are stored by telephone companies and not the NSA.

The bill requires that the data is stored for six months.
