President Barack Obama's 2017 budget proposal includes nearly $220 million in funding for the Air Force Research Lab in Rome.

That's $4.4 million more than the 2016 fiscal year funding amount.

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand say they will continue to fight tooth and nail to make sure the full funding is included in the final appropriations bill for 2017.

Schumer says  the President's budget is great news for Rome Lab and shows just how important it is to both the regional economy and protecting the nation's cyber defense network.

“I am pleased that the Administration recognizes the value of Rome Labs and is planning to invest even more than last year to ensure that this premier research organization can continue to do the critical work of supporting our national security,” said Senator Gillibrand. “I will work hard to ensure that this funding is included in the Fiscal Year 2017 appropriations bill and that Rome Labs has the tools and resources it needs to continue to be successful.”
