Bacon Linked to Increased Risk of Pancreatic Cancer

Thinkstock

Eating two strips of bacon can increase your risk of developing pancreatic cancer, according to a new study published in the British Journal of Cancer.

Researchers at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, reviewed 11 independent studies and found those who ate  50 mg of processed meat — two strips of bacon or one piece of sausage — daily increased their risk of pancreatic cancer by 19 percent.

Those who consumed twice that amount daily increased their risk to 38 percent. Those that consumed 150 mg per day had an increased risk of 57 percent.

The review also found men who ate 120 mg of red meat daily increased their risk of pancreatic cancer by 29 percent.

Eating processed meats like hot dogs has also been linked to an increased risk of colon cancer.
