An Ilion woman is facing numerous charges following an incident at the Ilion McDonald's that led to a police chase.

Ilion Police say 35-year old Diana Smith had driven up to the drive-thru window and refused to move, claiming she was going to conduct a "peaceful protest" against McDonald's by preventing other vehicles from using the drive-thru.

Police say Smith continued to sit in her car with the windows rolled up and the volume of her radio extremely loud, ignoring requests by restaurant employees to move.

When police arrived, Smith allegedly drove away at a high rate of speed and led officers onto Route 5 toward Herkimer.

Police stopped the chase when Smith drove through the Herkimer Thruway exit.

She was eventually taken into custody without incident at her home on South Third Avenue.

Smith is facing charges including unlawfully fleeing a police officer, speeding and reckless driving.
