Members of the State Public Service Commission were on hand at the North Utica Community Center last night to talk with residents about what the commission does and to listen to their concerns.

The main topic of discussion centered around National Grid and the rising energy costs to citizens, especially during the winter months.

Commissioner Garry Brown said the commission has a plan in place to require National Grid to begin 'hedging' - where service providers would enter into purchase agreements that would give providers like National Grid an assured price for energy that would be passed along to consumers.

Brown said if we have the same conditions this winter as last year, we shouldn't see the price spikes that we saw in the past.
