After walking two Yankees and hitting another to bring the tying run to plate with two outs in the ninth, Ernest Frieri struck out Robinson Cano to seal the Angels 5-1 win as Los Angeles has taken the first games of the three game series.

Albert Pujols had a two run blast and Mark Trumbo added a solo shot - his second homer of the series - as Andy Pettitte dropped to 2-2, allowing all five Angel runs on nine hits in seven-plus innings.

Pujols and Trumbo had two hits apiece, while Mark Trout and Howie Kendrick each had a hit and an RBI.

New York's lone run came on a Nick Swisher RBI-single in the fourth inning off of L.A. starter Dan Haren, who improved to 3-5.
