Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri's weekly Quality of Life Sweep led to a trip to the North Utica WalMart for four local boys.

During Wednesday's sweep in Cornhill, the four boys approached the Mayor to shake his hand.

While talking to the boys, Palmieri asked them why they didn't ride their bikes over to one of the city pools to cool off.  He was told they couldn't because their bikes had been stolen the night before.

A Utica Police officer overheard the conversation and made a phone call to see what the Thomas Lindsey Foundation could do to help.

The four boys were then brought to WalMart to choose brand new bicycles - courtesy of the Lindsey Foundation.

One boy commented that this is the first time he has had a bike with brakes.

Palmieri said, "This is all part of our never ending commitment to provide a better quality of life in the City of Utica."
