Local officials held a question and answer session with members of the media today regarding plans to build a new hospital in downtown Utica.

Mohawk Valley Health System President and CEO Scott Perra, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi took part in the forum.

Perra says a study conducted by the Hammes Group found that the cost to build downtown versus at the St. Luke's Campus is comparable, making the downtown location financially viable.

$300 million was included in the new state budget for the hospital project.  Perra says MVHS will finance the rest of the $600 million project through borrowing, grant opportunities and philanthropy.
