Rome, NY (WIBX) - Do you think you can turn trash into treasure? If so, the Rome Art and Community Center has a challenge for you.

Officials say the third annual Recycled Art Challenge is the most popular exhibit held at the gallery each year. Both amateur and professional artists can submit art, provided it fits the theme of using recycled goods.

"We have a peice that's still on display at our arts center that is an Expressionist painting, but when you looked closely at it, it was layers and layers of paint chips, paint rags - it was everything that an artists would normally throw out," said Executive Director Lauren Getek.

Getek says she expects to see between 50 and 150 artist submissions for this year's event.

If you're interested in submitting a piece, contact the Rome Art and Community Center at 366-1040.
