Railroad Crossings’ Safety Under Review After Teen’s Death

KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) — The Federal Railroad Administration is reviewing the safety of railroad crossings in the Hudson Valley after a 15-year-old boy was struck and killed by a freight train last week.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (http://bit.ly/2bJmC2P ) the death of Jordan DePace in Kingston last Thursday is the third train-related fatality in the area in less than a year.

In February, a 19-year-old Kingston man was struck and killed in the neighboring town of Ulster. In November, another 19-year-old Kingston man was hit by a CSX train while walking on the tracks in a Kingston railyard.

FRA spokeswoman Tiffany Lindemann says the administration's highway-grade crossing team is evaluating crossings in the area for additional safety measures that may be necessary.
