Rangers – Penguins Game 4 Preview

The Rangers attack with the man advantage might as well be called Power Plain.

As in there is nothing special, unique, powerful or advantageous about it. Their power play drought has now run to 37 consecutive scoreless opportunities dating back to Game 2 of the Rangers opening round playoff series with the Flyers.

If they’re going to tie their series with the Penguins tonight at 2-all, they’ll need to make a statement on the power play and, dare I say it, they’ll have to actually score a goal with the man advantage.

And, moreover, how about scoring a goal period. Pittsburgh’s net minder, Marc-Andre Fleury, has shutout the Blueshirts in each of the last two games, both of course, wins for the Pens.

Some good news for the Rangers, Chris Kreider, whose been absent this postseason with broken hand, has been cleared to return. He totaled 37 points in the regular season (17 goals, 20 assists) including six goals on the power play. However, ESPN reports New York’s Alain Vingeault wouldn’t say whether Kreider would see ice time tonight.

On the other side of the ice, New York’s Henrik Lundqvist has done a great job of protecting the net, but you can’t win when your own team can’t score. He’s allowed four goals in the last two games – plus an empty netter – but has made some phenomenal saves. Let’s say this, a less talented goalie would have likely yielded at least six or seven goals under the same circumstances.

Tonight’s Game 4 at Madison Square Garden is scheduled for a 7:30 start.
