This year's annual Utica Mayor's Benefit Gala is scheduled for Saturday April 5, 2014.

Mayor Robert Palmieri announced that the 2014 Gala recipient will be the YWCA Mohawk Valley.

Palmieri and his wife Sue chose the YWCA for its leadership in the issue of domestic violence.

"This year my wife has chosen the the leaders in the issue of domestic and sexual violence," Palmieri said. "This organization is supported by the notables in the provision of supportive services for victims; and, as the only local state certified provider of these services, uniquely qualified to deliver violence prevention education to the community."

"The YWCA Mohawk Valley is extremely honored to be selected as the designated charity for this year's Mayor's Gala," said Natalie Brown of the YWCA. "Being selected is a tribute to and recognition of the critical services we provide to the community. It is also a validation of the great work our staff is doing to raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence in the Mohawk Valley."

Tickets for the Gala will be $50 and the event will run from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel on Genesee Street in Downtown Utica.
