The Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross and the City of Utica area teaming up to "Sound the Alarm" on Saturday.

It will be the largest local home fire safety and smoke installation event ever.

A kick-off event will be held at the Val Bialis Sports Center from 9:45 to 10:45.

Mallory Brown, Executive Director of the Red Cross, says volunteers will then be installing free smoke alarms throughout the city.  Brown says they'll be tackling the areas where fires happen the most.

Brown says they've worked with the Utica Fire Department to make sure they're covering the most vulnerable areas of the city.

The event is Utica is part of a nationwide Red Cross effort to install 100-thousand free smoke alarms in more than 100 U.S cities in just 16 days.
