Red Cross Honors Real Heroes

The American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley held its 16th annual Real Heroes Breakfast at Utica College today.

The event recognizes individuals who have shown courage, dedication and unselfish character by their acts of heroism in the community.

Gary Scalzo, the President of Scalzo, Zogby and Wittig Insurance was honored with the Michael Cianfrocco "Humanitarian of the Year Award."

Other winners include:

Mary Haggerty Education Award- Brian Healy, Brian Palmer, Brian McQueen and Brian Destefanis

Animal Rescue Award- Alicia Marconi

Kurt B Wyman Law Enforcement Award- Bruce Stoffolano

Military Award- MSgt Jason Rutherford

Blood Donor Award- Dr. Donna J Cotrupe

9-1-1 Dispatch Award- Amy Wheeler

Youth Good Samaritan Award- Michael Irons

Adult Good Samaritan Award- Noreen Matthews

Medical Award- Steve Martin

Fire Rescue Award- Daren Evans
