The Red Cross is honoring eight  Mohawk Valley residents who have acted heroically in the community over the past year.

Oneida County Probation Officer Jim Fister is this year's recipient of the Kurt Wyman Law Enforcement Award for saving the life of an intoxicated student by giving him CPR.

Fister said he was simply doing his job, but it feels really good to be recognized.

  • Animal rescue award - Jill Stafford
  • Fire rescue award - Utica Fire Captain Scott Ingersol & Firefighter Fredderick Decarlo
  • 911 Dispatch award - Oneida County 911 Center
  • Military award - Master Sgt. Bernie Jowers
  • Medical award - Waterville area Ambulance and Fire Departments
