HOLLAND PATENT, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a central New York teenager charged with killing his father used a rifle to commit the slaying and then covered the victim's body with a tarp in their backyard.

Time Warner Cable News reports that according to court documents, 17-year-old Austin Parker killed 52-year-old Steven Parker in late May at their home in the Oneida County village of Holland Patent.

The father's body wasn't discovered until late June, when troopers went to the home after receiving a report of a suspicious situation at the house. The teenager was later taken into custody after police pulled over his vehicle.

Austin Parker has been charged with second-degree murder.

The case is expected to be heard by an Oneida County grand jury in the coming weeks.
