New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - Have you ever received a holiday or birthday card with a lotto ticket in it? Ever win anything?

For most us the answer is 'no'.

Well, maybe $2 or $5 here or there.

A couple from Richfield Springs did. One-thousand dollars a week for life with a minimum total payout of one million dollars.

Adrienne Gray, 25, and her fiance, 24-year-old D.J. Oldick were given the winning ticket in a Christmas card from a relative.

Oldick said he'd like to continue living a 'frugal' lifestyle. But, his wife-to-be told us there are some things they're going to need.

"We've been trying to find a way to get a house and now we'll have enough money for a down payment. I've always wanted to go on a cruise, so that's a good possibility in couple years, taking the kids and going on one. We only have one vehicle, so now I can get a car and get around and not have to rely on D.J. It's gonna be nice," said Gray.

What was it like to scratch such a big winner?

Pretty unbelievable. "I asked my mom if it was fake. I remember holding the ticket out, right in her face, and screaming at her (asking) if it was fake," she said.

The couple has two children.

"It feels like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders," Gray said. "We'll definitely set up a college fund and put some money aside for down payment on a house."

The winning ticket was purchased at the Xtra Mart on Seneca Turnpike in New Hartford.
