ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — A New York man described by authorities as a career criminal has pleaded guilty to fatally beating a liquor store owner with a wine bottle while trying to rob her.

Kevin Quander was arrested the day after Charlotte Lahr was killed inside her Rochester store in March. The 60-year-old parolee pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder and attempted robbery.

Prosecutors say Quander walked into the open store and demanded money from Lahr at knifepoint, then beat her to death when she resisted. Police were led to Quander by video surveillance and DNA evidence.

Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley says Quander will be sentenced in October to serve at least 36 years in prison.
