ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — The Rochester City School District is looking to hire teachers for the upcoming school year as part of a new initiative.

WHAM-TV reports RCSD has scheduled a teacher recruitment event for Nov. 18. District officials say they are hiring teachers for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years. According to the district, qualified applicants could be hired on the spot.

Superintendent Barbara Deane-Williams says the district is focused on implementing its Early Hiring initiative in order to "recruit mission-driven teachers who have a passion for serving urban children."

RCSD online applications are due Wednesday. Candidates can apply on the district website .
