Utica, NY (WIBX) - David Roefaro will not be screening for the Democratic nomination of the Assembly 116th district seat.

Roefaro announced today that he will instead be running for re-election as Utica's mayor.

Roefaro expressed interest in the seat currently held by RoAnn Destito, but says being 'an effective advocate for the city of Utica is of utmost importance.'

The Oneida County Democratic Committee will select a candidate to run for Destito's seat at its meeting tomorrow night. A special election is expected something this summer after Destito is confirmed as the Commissioner of the Office of General Services.
