The Rome area hunger walk will be held on October 16 this year to raise funds to support agencies in the area that provide services to families in the community who are struggling to find food, shelter and employment.

90% of the walk's proceeds will be divided equally between several Rome area agencies and programs, including:

  • Rome Salvation Army
  • Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen
  • Rome Catholic Charities
  • In Mission of the Christ Child(St. Peter's Catholic Church)
  • Foothills Rural Ministry
  • St. Joseph's Food Pantry

Two walking routes are available and shirts will be given out to walkers who raise over $60.

The goal of the walk is to recruit 400 walkers who will raise $100 each.

Anyone who wishes to walk can join a team or create on and more information is available by calling 315-336-1380 or on the First Presbyterian Church of Rome's website.

In years past, the walk was known as a CROP walk under the umbrella of Church World Service(CWS), but the local organizational committee cut ties with CWS because their rules allowed only 25% of money raised to stay local.

A 10% donation will be made to CWS for national and global disaster relief efforts.

Walkers are encouraged to bring a canned or boxed food item with them.
