Rome, NY (WIBX) - Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente says the Rome Department of Motor Vehicles office will remain open.

Picente had proposed closing the office in his 2012 budget last week.Picente says he's heard from numerous businesses and officials about the hardship that the closure would place on Rome and the western portion of the county.

Instead of closing, county officials have come up with a plan which includes both a staff reduction and a reduction in the extended hours at both the Utica and Rome DMV offices.

The proposal will result in the same amount of cost savings.
