$8.5 million in funding from Empire State Development is headed to Rome for a major water-sewer improvement project.

Senator Joseph Griffo made the announcement this morning.

The project will bring water to more than 1,000 residents in West Rome by tying together existing water lines.

It will also connect over 50 businesses and shovel-ready sites by completing the water and sewer lines along Martin Street.

Construction is expected to begin next spring.

The total cost of the project is $11.5 million.
