Rome Police are offering residents the ability to download vouchers for free home drug test kits.

The kits are being made available by a company called TestMyTeen.com in an effort to provide children with what could be used by teens as a built-in excuse for not using drugs: "My parents test me."

In a notice posted on the department's Facebook page the department says that the goal of the kits is not only to decrease drug use among teens but also to make parents, and not police, to be the first to know when there is a problem.

The kits will be available anonymously to parents, therefore protecting the privacy of all involved.

The kits test for the following:

  • amphetamines
  • barbituates
  • benzodiazepines
  • cocaine
  • marijuana
  • MDMA (Ectasy)
  • Methadone (MTD)
  • methamphetamine
  • opiates (codeine, morphine, heroin, narcotics)
  • oxycodone / oxycontin

For more information visit the Rome Police Department's Facebook page or call the department at: (315) 339.7780.  A limited number of vouchers may be available.
