The Rome Police Department is introducing the Crime Stoppers program to the Utica-Rome area.

Mohawk Valley Crime Stoppers is a program that allows members of the community to provide anonymous information about any criminal activity.

Executive Director James Glorioso says the Crime Stoppers program is operated in many communities worldwide.

Rome Police Captain Tim Bates says the Crime Stoppers program has been around since 1976 and has been successful in the West and Midwestern part of the counry, but it's new to central New York.

Residents can call a confidential tip line at 1-866-730-8477 (TIPS) or report a tip online.

Monetary rewards are also offered.  Glorioso says the reward money is funded through private donations from throughout the community.
