Rome, NY (WIBX) - The 9th annual American Heart Association's Rome Indoor  Run and Walk is taking place next Saturday, February 12.

It's from 8:30 a.m. until noon, with the start of the race happening after the opening ceremony at 9 a.m.

Diane Butler, chairperson of the run and walk, says the event is a way for the Rome community to get involved without having to go to Utica.

"We can have folks from the surrounding areas, like Oneida, that just don't want to travel to Utica because of the traffic concerns and maybe they don't want to participate in the Utica Heart Run and Walk because of the weather," she said.

In addition to three run and walk courses, there will be activities for children, a vendor fair and Rome Memorial Hospital will offer free blood pressure screenings.

You can also pre-register for the Utica Heart Run and Walk at the indoor event. The minimum pledge is $25--and that covers both the Utica and Rome events.
