Rome, NY (WIBX) - A Rome senior is the winner of the first annual "Deputy Kurt B. Wyman Memorial Scholarship". Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol says the $500 scholarship was awarded to Danielle Famolaro from Rome Free Academy.

The scholarship is made possible through the New York State Deputies Association. Organizers say the award is to help a local student pursue a criminal justice career. The Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Kurt Wyman who was killed in the line of duty June 7, 2011, during a domestic dispute in the Town of Augusta.
