Rome's Superintendent of water and sewer Tony Nash says if your water isn't flowing the first thing to do is call the Rome Water Department.

The problem could be either from a broken water main in the street or from a frozen or burst water service line to your home.

"If your water flowing, the first thing to do is call us at 315-339-7772, Nash said. "We will determine the cause of problem. We've been out every day repairing mains, and there's no relief in sight."

He said if its a broken water main, his crews will respond immediately.

Crews have been able to repair mains in just a few hours keeping water pressure to home high enough that the city hasn't had to issue any boil water advisories.

Nash also wants to remind Rome residents that property owners are responsible for thawing any frozen water lines from the city main to your home, and the city will be happy help you find a contractor to do the work.

If freezing causes a leak in the water line, property owners are responsible for any repairs from the shut-off valve at the curb to the home or business. The city will repair a leak in the line between the curb box and the water main in the street.
