A Rome woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing money from the bank account of an elderly man.

57-year old Barbara Flanigan is charged with grand larceny.

Rome Police say Flanigan stole over $12,000 over a seven month period in 2017.

They say Flanigan had been permitted access to the victim's account to assist him with authorized purchases, but withdrew sums of money multiple times for her own use.

The case will be forwarded to the Oneida County District Attorney's Office and additional charges are possible.

The victim has been a resident of an assisted living facility since May of 2017.

Police are urging the public to monitor the bank accounts of elderly family members to reduce the chances of this type of crime happening.
