Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri announced today that his administration has secured a variance to demolish the old Roosevelt School on Brinkerhoff Ave.
Palmieri says aside from being an eyesore, the building is collapsing before our eyes and it has become a safety concern. Since the school's closing many promises have been made to area residents about cleaning up the site.

He added that the building needs to come down as soon as possible.

Local residents say they are ecstatic about the demolition finally happening because they have been trying to do something about the building for years.

Demolition is set to begin in November with completion by the spring. The property could then support multiple private residences.
