UPDATE: 06/22/2015  7:11pm  New Hartford Police are releasing the following information regarding today's accident:

"On Monday June 22, 2015 at approximately 2:29 pm the New Hartford Police Department responded to a report of a serious personal injury car/motorcycle accident on Route 12 at Brimfield Street.  

Upon arrival at the scene the operator of the motorcycle, ejected in the crash, was located on the side of the road.  Emergency medical personnel determined the operator was deceased.  

Preliminary findings indicate that the motorcycle was headed south on Route 12 when a north bound vehicle attempted to turn left onto Brimfield Street in front of the motorcycle, resulting in a head on collision.  The driver of the car was not injured...The identity of the operator of the motorcycle is being withheld at this time.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and transported the body of the deceased to the Medical Examiner’s office for further examination.  The New Hartford Fire Department assisted at the scene.   

The accident is being investigated by the New Hartford Police Accident Reconstruction Unit with the assistance of the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. Numerous witnesses are being interviewed at this time.  The name of the operator of the motorcycle will be released after notification is made to the family."

New Hartford Police are asking motorists to avoid Route 12 in New Hartford until further notice.

Route 12 is closed to all traffic, pedestrians and bicyclists between Tibbits Road and Genesee Street due to a serious personal injury accident.
