A video showing an interaction between a Saratoga County Sheriff's deputy and a civilian resulted in the deputy being suspended following the video being released on YouTube.

The video shows the deputy requesting to search a vehicle. After an initial refusal, he appears to strike the man and uses profanity.

Authorities say Sheriff Sergeant Shawn Glans has been suspended without pay after he allegedly slapped a man who did not want his vehicle searched.  Glans confronted the driver after noticing a rifle in his back seat.  The department has launched an internal investigation.

The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office released a statement posted by WTEN:

The Sheriff's Office has identified and interviewed all parties involved in the interaction and as a result, the police officer has been suspended without pay effective immediately, pending the outcome of the investigation and possible disciplinary action.

The Sheriff's Office takes matters such as this very seriously and does not in any way condone anything less than professional behavior from our members. Sheriff's wish to thank the members of the community who brought this to light and cooperated fully with the investigation.
