A near $20-million capital project for the Sauquoit Valley Central School District was approved by slim margin on Tuesday night.

The finally tally came in at 266 votes for the proposal and 244 against.

The $19.9 million plan includes upgrades for the elementary, middle and high schools, along with the district's bus garage. It includes roof replacement on two buildings and renovation of the high school auditorium, among other improvements.

School officials have said more than 85% of the project will be covered by state funding.
