SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York county has announced an operation expansion to fight the heroin epidemic.

WNYT reports (http://bit.ly/2jl46p5) that the Schenectady (skeh-NEHK'-ta-dee) County drug unit added a full-time investigator. Schenectady County Sherriff Dominic Dagostino says the goal of the operation is to deter people from selling drugs throughout the county.

The drug unit was created in 2015 to address opioid addiction in the area. Last year it accounted for 150 drug busts.
