A Utica woman has been arrested for allegedly punching an 87-year old resident at the Focus Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Utica.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says 42-year old Sonya King, who worked as nurses aid at Focus for a year and-a-half, is facing charges including endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person.

King is accused of punching the man in the face, resulting in fractures to bones in his face and nose.

King was arraigned in Oneida County Court, where she pleaded not guilty.

“Families deserve to know their loved ones are treated with the utmost care by medical professionals responsible for their safety and security,” said Schneiderman. “We will not tolerate the mistreatment of some of our most vulnerable citizens. My office will continue to prosecute those that physically harm elderly and vulnerable New Yorkers.”
