Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has issued a new report examining the growing number and costs of data breaches in New York State.

The report shows the number of data security breaches in New York more than tripled between 2006 and 2013.

In that same time period, nearly 23-million personal records of New Yorkers have been exposed in nearly 5,000 breaches.

That cost the public and private sectors in New York over 1.3 billion dollars last year.

His office also says deliberate hacking was behind 40% of the incidents
