New York's two U.S. senators are seeking federal funding for a public-private partnership to create a nanotechnology testbed site in Utica, according to the Associated Press.

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand said Thursday that SUNY Polytechnic Institute, along with local companies SEMATECH, Edwards Vacuum and INFICON, have applied for a $1.25 million grant to establish an Advanced Manufacturing Performance Center at SUNY Poly's Quad-C in Utica.

Schumer and Gillibrand said the proposed Utica AMP Center would bring more nanotechnology companies to the Mohawk Valley and spur regional economic development by bringing good-paying, high-tech jobs to the area.
