Oswego, NY (WIBX) - Following a series of meth lab busts in the area, Senator Chuck Schumer is calling on the federal government and private citizens to help fund a national effort to reduce the production and consumption of crystal meth. Schumer says he plans to partner with the New York and New Jersey High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area group and the Office of National Drug Control Policy to move the initiative forward.

Earlier today, the senator requested to add Oswego County to the list of counties eligible to receive additional federal assistance for the project. He says the extra money will help local authorities shut down more meth labs. The Senator says he also plans to partner with other organizations like Meth Project, to increase awareness about the dangerous of crystal meth use.
