Nearly 500 jobs will be coming to central New York with the selection of Griffiss International Airport in Rome as one of six sites nationwide to test unmanned commercial aircraft.

Senator Charles Schumer was in Rome today to announce that Flyterra, a New York-based aerial imaging company, will be the first client at Griffiss.

He says commercial drones are the wave of the future.

Schumer says he's pushing to make central New York one of the first sites put into operation.

The FAA has said the first site will begin research and testing within 180 days.

The drone test site is expected to bring nearly 500 jobs to the region.
