Senator Charles Schumer is urging New York-based JetBlue to do even more business in New York by centering some of their maintenance operations in Rome.

Schumer is calling on JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes to bring additional maintenance work to Premier Aviation at the Griffiss International Airport.

He's touting Central New York's deep and talented work force and the low cost of doing business in the region.

“Simply put, a relationship between JetBlue and Premier Aviation would land more jobs at Griffiss and in Oneida County and that’s what I’ve always fought for,” said Schumer. “An agreement that flies and allows Griffiss to expand and continue its work as a renowned maintenance hub would be a match made in heaven and one that could lead to Griffiss getting even more work in the future.

Schumer says an agreement with JetBlue could add at least 100 new jobs at Griffiss.

Premier Aviation currently employs over 150 people in Rome.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi issued the following statement regarding Schumer's announcement:

“Airplane maintenance is becoming a key component of the Mohawk Valley’s economy, and Premier Aviation is building an excellent reputation working on aircraft carriers at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park.  Senator Schumer’s outreach to JetBlue executives requesting they consider a partnership with Premier Aviation is just one example of his commitment to our area.  If JetBlue agrees to this collaboration, more than 100 new employees would be needed at Griffiss.  These are good-paying, skilled jobs, and this would have a ripple effect, benefitting the economy of the entire Mohawk Valley region.  I stand strongly in support of Senator Schumer’s work on this project, and I strongly encourage JetBlue to consider a partnership with Premier Aviation.”
