The search for a vehicle in the Mohawk River on Leland Avenue continues.

Utica Police officers were flagged down last night by a motorist who said they saw a vehicle submerged in the water.

Officers quickly checked the water, but could not see a vehicle

Members of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office dive team have been searching the water for the vehicle.

UPDATE- The search for a vehicle in the Mohawk River off Leland Avenue in North Utica has been suspended.

Members of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office dive team were unable to locate the vehicle.

A sonar system was then brought in and what is believed to be a vehicle was located in deep water.

When divers re-entered the water they were unable to reach the vehicle due to extremely strong currents.

Utica Police say they have no evidence that the vehicle was occupied.

They say the operation to recover the vehicle while resume when current conditions improve.
