According to Police Chief Mark Williams the city of Utica has averaged six shootings between January and May over the last five years and this year there have already been seven.

At a Shots Fired Forum last night community members and elected officials came together to discuss what can be done to put a stop to gun violence.

Mayor Rob Palmieri was at the meeting and says it will take the collective effort of the Police department, Mayor's office and the community at large to make Utica a safer place.

Palmieri added that citizens should not be afraid to tell the police when they see a crime happen, or if they have any information that could prevent gun violence.
