Security Guard Fired For Leaving Gun In High School Bathroom

BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) — A New York school district has fired a high school security guard who they say left an unloaded gun in a restroom at the school.

Superintendent Linda Rozzi said in a letter to parents the unloaded, holstered weapon was found on a countertop in a school bathroom at Babylon High School Tuesday.

She says the gun was found after school hours, and it was quickly recovered.

School officials say the gun belonged to a retired Suffolk County police officer who was working as school security.

Rozzi says the employee has been fired, effective immediately.

According to Board of Education policy, employees are prohibited from carrying a weapon on school grounds or in any facility.
