Rome, NY (WIBX) - Senator Joe Griffo and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi are calling for the state to take strong, aggressive action to protect Rome Lab and other upstate military installations for possible cuts in the upcoming Base Realignment and Closure process.

Griffo has asked that $5 million be included in the Senate version of the new state budget to protect the lab and other defense facilities around the state.  Brindisi expects $5.4 million will be included in the Assembly budget.

Both versions of the 2012-2013 budget are expected to be released this week.

Griffo is also calling for $320 million in base re-development funding to be included in the budget.  He says the Air Force Research Lab had an economic impact of about $248 million in 2010.
